Being totally honest, I have to admit that Harley is my favorite. But then, I’ve always had a fondness for BIG dogs. I’m not sure where he inherits his size. He appears to be a cross between a Rottweiler, a Shetland pony and a teddy bear. The last time we weighed him, he was 106 pounds, with15 of those pounds being tongue. Even though he is big and beautiful, I think that it was that “teddy bear” part of him that finally won me over.

The best part of my day starts when I walk out to the kennel to feed the dogs, “Hey Harley, what’cha doing?” is answered with running up and down the kennel fence, jumping with what appears to be unbridled joy, tongue lolled to one side, front paws pounding the dirt. When I open the gate, Harley’s sister Hailey bolts out to run in the larger open area; Harley tries to surround me so I can’t leave and escorts me to the door of the kennel –food be there.

After feeding, I sit on the floor petting both Harley and Sweetie; one on each side. Sometimes Harley will sit beside me, which puts his head even with mine. Then he leans into my chest with his head nestled against my neck. He stays there for a while, leaning heavier and heavier. Eventually he slides down my body until he is lying in my lap. What a lover he has turned out to be.

If you are the lucky one who gets to adopt Harley, don’t be surprised, when I say goodbye, to see tears streaking down my cheeks or some discreet sniffling that I will blame on allergies.

Harley plays and romps like a kid and needs plenty of yard to exercise.  While having a wonderful "guard dog" appearance, he is not a guard dog.  He is a gentle dog, never meeting a stranger and bonds well with his person(s).  Harley is  well behaved inside and outside.  He should do well with children (although there are none at Companion Connection) after proper introductions.   Harley prefers to be with dogs of his own size as he did wonderfully with his sister.
